Anchorage Museum to feature Sikuliaq exhibit

An upcoming exhibition at the Anchorage Museum will highlight life and work aboard the research vessel Sikuliaq. The interactive experience, 鈥淎rctic Marine Science: Sikuliaq to Shore,鈥 opens on May 15 and will continue through April 2027.
The exhibition will recreate parts of Sikuliaq in the museum gallery, giving visitors an opportunity to experience actual ship-based technology and state-of-the art science equipment.
Sikuliaq, which is homeported in Seward, has operated in Alaska waters since 2016. The 261-foot ice-capable vessel is owned by the National Science Foundation and operated by the 麻豆原创F College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences.
The exhibit, which was developed by the North Pacific Research Board and the Anchorage Museum, aims to teach visitors about the Arctic marine ecosystem and the importance of incorporating local and Indigenous knowledge into a collective understanding of the Arctic.
鈥淔别补迟耻谤颈苍驳 Sikuliaq in this exhibit provides Alaskans an opportunity to fully grasp the seagoing science and technology operations based in our state, and how scientists are working to better understand some of the most pressing marine environmental issues,鈥 said Bradley Moran, dean of the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences.
