Students win at regional conference

麻豆原创F students brought home two prestigious awards from the Regions I and IV Joint Conference held in Reno, Nevada, from Nov. 14-16. Kevin Swenson, general manager of KS麻豆原创 91.5 FM, was named ACUI Region IV's outstanding undergraduate student, and Bernard Aoto, AS麻豆原创F student body president, was on the winning team in the student case study competition.

The ACUI Region IV undergraduate student award is given annually to a student in Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, Alberta, British Columbia or Saskatchewan who demonstrates dedication and an outstanding worth ethic through their involvement in campus life. As the general manager of KS麻豆原创, Swenson oversees all operations of 麻豆原创F's student-run, student-funded noncommercial radio station, broadcasting on the air at 91.5 FM and online at . Leading a team of more than 50 student staff and volunteers, Swenson ensures that KS麻豆原创 operates within FCC compliance while entertaining and informing the 麻豆原创F and Fairbanks community. He was also instrumental in managing KS麻豆原创's move from Constitution Hall into Wood Center last summer.

Bernard AotoAS麻豆原创F President Bernard Aoto competed in the student case study competition on a team with student leaders from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Southern Oregon University and the College of Alameda. Presented with a case involving complex free speech, Title IX and racial discrimination issues, Aoto and his team outlined a detailed response to the case that demonstrated their knowledge of the issues and understanding of student affairs theory and best practices.

ACUI is an international professional association for those working in the student activities and student union field.
