Veteran newsman Robert Hannon will host a discussion with U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.

Ketanji Brown Jackson, Associate Justice, was born in Washington, D.C., on September 14, 1970. She married Patrick Jackson in 1996, and they have two daughters. She received an A.B., magna cum laude, from Harvard-Radcliffe College in 1992, and a J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 1996. She served as a law clerk for Judge Patti B. Saris of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts from 1996 to 1997, Judge Bruce M. Selya of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit from 1997 to 1998, and Justice Stephen G. Breyer of the Supreme Court of the United States during the 1999 Term. After three years in private practice, she worked as an attorney at the U.S. Sentencing Commission from 2003 to 2005. From 2005 to 2007, she served as an assistant federal public defender in Washington, D.C., and from 2007 to 2010, she was in private practice. She served as a Vice Chair and Commissioner on the U.S. Sentencing Commission from 2010 to 2014. In 2012, President Barack Obama nominated her to the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, where she served from 2013 to 2021. She was appointed to the Defender Services Committee of the Judicial Conference of the United States in 2017, and the Supreme Court Fellows Commission in 2019. President Joseph Biden appointed her to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in 2021 and then nominated her as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court in 2022.

Attendance & Security Information

By registering for this event, you acknowledge and agree that your name and other relevant information may be submitted to the appropriate federal authorities for screening purposes. This process is required to comply with government regulations and security protocols.

  • Attendees must be a minimum of 12 years old.
  • Tickets will be required for all attendees. There will be no standby line.
  • Tickets are not transferable. Name changes are not permitted.
  • Guests will present a valid government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver's license, passport, state ID, or military ID) at the door. Every ticket should be reserved in the attendee's legal name and must match the presented ID.
  • Attendees will be screened via metal detector at the event.
  • Bags and purses will not be permitted beyond the size of 4.5" x 6.5". An exception will be made for items necessary for medical reasons after proper inspections at the gate.
  • Once an attendee has passed the screening process they will not be able to re-enter the venue if they leave during the event.

Prohibited Items

The University of Fairbanks Alaska reserves the right to inspect the contents of any container brought into the venues. In the interest of ensuring the safety of all attendees, the following items are strictly prohibited.

Please refrain from attempting to bring these or similar articles into the venue, as items will not be stored at entrances or venues for retrieval after the event.

  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Animals (except trained service animals)
  • Artificial Noisemakers (i.e. air horns, thunder sticks, musical instruments, whistles, etc)
  • Bags that are larger than 4.5" x 6.5" (with or without straps)
    • Example: Purses, wallets or clutches larger than 4.5" x 6.5", backpacks, briefcases, diaper bags, fanny packs, luggage, etc.
  • Balls, Frisbees, Sports Equipment, and Similar Items
  • Candles
  • Containers (including plastic or glass bottles, cans, cups, coolers, flasks and water bottles of any kind)
  • Folding Chairs or Stools
  • Laser Pen/Pointers
  • Outside Good and Beverages
  • Selfie Sticks, Sticks, and Poles
  • Signs, Banners, or Flags of any kind
  • Unmanned Aircraft (Drones)
  • Weapons, Fireworks, Explosives

This Free event will take place in the on Âé¶¹Ô­´´F Campus:

Ticket registration will be determined on a first-come, first-served basis on June 15 at 10 a.m. Once we reach capacity, additional registrants will be placed on a waitlist.

Please note that photography is permitted only during a designated one-minute window. You will be prompted when this time begins. Videography is strictly prohibited throughout the event.

Justice Jackson will not be available for book signings or photos before or after the event.

There is no assigned seating for this event. Seating will be available on a first come, first served basis.

The event will be streamed live to Schaible Auditorium for non-ticket guests, and a recording will be posted on the following the event.

The legal first and last name that matches the Government issued ID you will present on the day of the event, and your birthdate.

This is a free event, there are no costs during reserving a ticket or otherwise.

How many tickets can I reserve at a time?
A:
In order to keep ticket reservations on a first-come first-serve basis, you will be able to reserve tickets 1 at a time. Participants will have to restart the registration process for each additional ticket.
