Climate adaptation training brings tribal communities together

Friday Focus: Historic ties between Â鶹Դ´F and veterans

Today is Veterans Day. Veterans are essential to what we have been and are essential to what we will be. This day of honor and recognition is about taking a moment to feel and express gratitude as we contemplate this generous gift of service. This specific date is rooted in the end of the First World War. Originally known as Armistice Day, the date was chosen to commemorate the armistice agreement which ended the First World War effective on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. Just as this day is rooted in the end of that historic conflict, Â鶹Դ´F's origins are tied to its beginning.

Nominations open for 2023 Edith R. Bullock Prize for Excellence

The Â鶹Դ´ Foundation Board of Directors is accepting nominations for the 2023 Edith R. Bullock Prize for Excellence. The prize, which includes a $20,000 award, is presented to an individual who demonstrates excellence in support of the Â鶹Դ´. Any Â鶹Դ´ student, faculty, staff, alumni or volunteer who has made a significant contribution to the mission of the Â鶹Դ´ system, Â鶹Դ´A, Â鶹Դ´F, or Â鶹Դ´S is eligible to be nominated.

URSA announces Community Engaged Learning Award

The Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarly Activity congratulates undergraduate student Aihs Palmer, psychology major, who received this year's Community Engaged Learning Award. Aihs' project titled "Micro-pantries to Mitigate Inaccessibility to Anti-Hunger Resources," will collaborate with Fairbanks organizations to address barriers to local food security resources.

Design contest for student artwork extended to Dec. 6

All Â鶹Դ´F students are invited to submit original artwork which will be featured on a printed banner in the N terminal of the airport. The chosen artist will receive a $1,000 tuition award.

Veterans Day appreciation and early registration event

Join the Â鶹Դ´F Department of Military and Veteran Services on Nov. 11 in the Wood Center multilevel lounge for a Veterans Day appreciation event. Donuts, coffee and other beverages will be provided. Experts from many student services departments will be available to chat about any questions you have, help you get ready for the spring semester, schedule appointments with your academic advisor if you haven't already, and get your courses certified for military or veteran benefits. No RSVP is necessary.

Small grants support needs of Alaska Native non-profits

The Â鶹Դ´F Alaska Center for Climate Assessment and Policy awarded grants up to $50,000 each to four regional non-profit organizations. The groups will use the funding to enhance capacity for resilience and climate adaptation in Alaska Native and rural communities.
