Teaching our way of life through our language

Yup'ik immersion language education

Overview

The Applied Linguistics program at the 麻豆原创, is partnering with the Lower Kuskokwim and Lower Yukon School Districts to create materials for Yup鈥檌k medium schools, provide training for teachers and aides, implement lesson plans and evaluate their impact on students learning outcomes, and to develop capacity for local leadership and control in language programming. Any materials created through this collaboration will be shared as widely as possible in the Yup鈥檌k speaking region in Southwest Alaska. Materials will be hosted and distributed through the schools districts as well as through the Yupiit Piciryarait Museum and Cultural Center in Bethel run by the Association of Village Presidents (AVCP is a regional non-profit Native association serving fifty-six Federally Recognized Tribes in Alaska鈥檚 Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta).
